Hello, I'm Marianne and I run 'Pilates For Life'. I am dedicated to helping my clients achieve their health and wellness goals through Pilates. My aim is to provide a supportive and encouraging environment where participants can feel confident and empowered in their practise of Pilates. I have called it Pilates For Life because it will enhance your life as it enhances your mind and body, and you can do it your whole life long!
Pilates is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, fitness level or ability. By adapting, progressing and modifying each exercise to suit the individual, I can ensure that, if you are new to Pilates there will always be exercises in the class that you can do along with everyone else, without overdoing it! And, if you have been doing Pilates for years, that you can still be challenged, stretched and strengthened each week.
Pilates is rooted in six principles - Centring, Control, Concentration, Breath, Precision and Flow. I believe that by focusing on these fundamental principles, plus the concepts of alignment and integration, my clients can achieve a greater understanding and execution of each exercise, a deeper mind-body connection and more effective resu

In each class I will name and explain the exercises, demonstrate where necessary, instruct and observe. At the end of each class you will know that you have worked hard and feel stronger in your mind as well as your body.

Pilates is a series of exercises performed and executed with precision and control to develop full body conditioning, strength, mobility and balance. Most will involve using and strengthening the core 'tummy' muscles, the muscles stabilising each joint and the deep muscles, as well as the minor muscles. By doing so, the body becomes more flexible, and the mind is engaged and becomes stronger as we concentrate on each exercise. It is suitable for men and women of all shapes and sizes, all levels of fitness and will help to improve posture, body awareness, balance, flexibility, co-ordination and confidence.
If you'd like to try out a group class, please contact me in advance. I will send you a PARQ (Physical Activity Readiness Form) to complete as it's important that I am aware of any mobility or relevant health issues you may have, such as high or low blood pressure, osteoporosis or arthritis, etc. Your first class is at half the usual price, payable on the day by cash or bank transfer.
All exercises take place 'on the mat' so you will need to bring an exercise mat with you. If you don't have one, they are easily available on the Internet or I can supply one for you for the first few weeks. Please wear clothes that you can move in easily but not so baggy that I can't see what you are doing with your body. And ideally bri

I trained in ballet aged 4-14 yrs and then took up running aged 18 and have run ever since. I've enjoyed other forms of exercise for years too - I was a keen participant in Jane Fonda Work Outs and with The Green Goddess back in the 1980s!! I absolutely loved doing 'Circuits' in the 90s and 2000s, but all the time walking and running up h

I completed three cross country marathons in 2006, 2007 and 2008 (without the dog) all in under 4 hours. So, not too shabby!
Then, more recently I discovered Pilates and love the way it makes you feel stretched and long and lean after a work out and improves your balance and posture! It's such a great all round work out and anyone can do it. All you need is a mat, a little bit of space around you and a few momentsto enjoy some 'Me time'.
I've found that exercise of any kind is a great way to help us relax, unwind, destress, and take our mind off the worries and concerns of life. That means that it's great for our mental health as well as helping us to engage in life to the full.

In addition to the group mat based classes, I also offer group seated Pilates classes for those with limited mobilty. Seated Pilates exercises are wonderful for getting the major joints moving and stretching the entire body. These are usually 45 minutes classes and are charged at £8 pp per class. I currently offer these at Yelland Place

Each Group Class will see us spending an hour on the mat - with an 8-10 minute warm up, followed by 40-45 minutes of main exercises, and finally an 8- 10 minute closing phase. Exercises will be adapted, progressed and modified so whether you're a commited Pilates person or a complete beginner, everyone can participate in all the exercises at their own level.
